Android 5.0 Lollipop has been announced yesterday, together with Nexus 9 and Nexus 6 and today a wave of device makers has started announcing their release time frames for this OS. We learned that the Sony Xperia Z models will get the update and HTC will deliver it for the One flagship models in about 90 days. Nvidia also made a statement, saying the Nvidia Shield Tablet will get Lollipop as well.

There’s no time frame set, but Nvidia has a great track record when it comes to updating devices to the latest Google software. The update may come faster than some of the famous Android models, for the simple reason that Nvidia keeps stock Android with minor tweaks on its devices. This means that the graphics card maker may push out updates to customers very fast, compared to companies that heavily skin their devices.

I’m sure you’re wondering what Lollipop brings to the Shield Tablet. Well, the OS formerly known as Android L replaces the Holo design language with Material Design, with the main goal here being consistency on all devices, from tablet to phone, TV and watch. The header color is kept on the status bar and the app switcher has been revamped with a new look and wider thumbnails.

Battery life is also greatly enhanced by this release and we also get an updated Notification system, with easier access on the lockscreen and a new pull down menu.
