One of the best games of 2014 is certainly Monument Valley, that I tested on the iPad Mini. This spectacular game already won an award at WWDC and it was initially priced at $4, but now it costs $2. We’re dealing with a geometrical puzzle with isometric view and superb artwork.

Made by Ustwo, the game features only 10 levels, but there are also updates with more content planned for the future. This is an architectural puzzle with abstract geometry and soothing background music. Each piece of the puzzle you move, each set of stairs or column you rotate triggers a special sound or music note. You will guide a little princess through a 3D isometric puzzle by tapping the screen and rotate and flip every area of the castles, monuments and other places you visit.

Optical illusions are included, as well as logic games, all of them subtly presented to the gamer. You can rotate the perspective and know that there aren’t two stages alike in this game. The story is filled with symbolism and it offers you about an hour and a half of gameplay. The game has a pretty low level of difficulty and it doesn’t frustrate the players. It’s a single player only affair, so there’s no way to interact with other players here.

Controls are good, since all you have to do is tap and overall the experience is great. I look forward to see more work from Ustwo, since this game is a solid 9.5 out of 10 for us. It would have been a 10 if it wasn’t so short. You can download it here on Android and here on iOS.
