Notion Ink Adam Tablet Gets Analyzed, Compared to the iPad (Video)
Feb 9, 2010 NVIDIA, Tablet related
Among the most appealing products shown at CES 2010 last month, there was Notion Ink’s Adam tablet, a true rival of the Apple iPad, if not better than the gadget created at Cupertino. Adam is an Android slate based on the latest NVIDIA Tegra chipset and using Pixel Qi’s low power display. The device is pictured below and the demo at CES 2010 involved only a prototype at that time.
A comparison between the iPad and Adam is predictable at this point and it seems that the Notion Ink device is better, as far as the battery life is concerned, thanks to the Tegra low power solution and the Pixel Qi display. Also, thanks to the NVIDIA chipset, Adam is able to output 1080p HD video, while the Apple tablet sticks with 576p/480p via an optional component cable.
Apparently, Notion Ink wants to release two versions of the Adam tablet, one with a 12.9mm waistline and the other one 11.6mm thick. Meanwhile, the iPad is quite fat, with its 13.4mm case and speculations about the Adam tablet go on, mentioning a better price than the one of Apple’s gadget. As a final plus for the tablet shown in action below, we’ve found that it runs Flash, supports Ebooks and comics and it’ll get its own app store.
Notion Ink also plans to run an Apps Competition, with huge prizes, in order to draw developers to their platform.

NVIDIA Tegra 2 Multi-Core CPU Shows its Power on Android Tablets (Video)
Feb 1, 2010 Apple Tablet
Well, we’re done with the Apple iPad tablet launch, so it’s up to the Android tablets to rule the game in this segment. In case you’re interested in seeing the brand new NVIDIA Tegra 2 multi-core CPU in action on a bunch of prototype Android tablets, we’ve got the video below for show. Turns out that these devices are more flexible and functional than Apple’s gizmo:
These tablets are Flash compatible, they pack front facing cameras, support for multitasking and you can add extra memory to them via expandable storage. Among the products showcased in the video above, there’s an ICD tablet with a 7 inch resistive touchscreen and a model made by FoxConn, packing a 10 inch resistive touchscreen.
Both devices run on the NVIDIA Tegra 2 1 GHz multi core processor, providing speedy web surfing, Flash animations and support for true 1080p playback and high res photos. Full 3D gaming is also supported, since this is NVIDIA we’re talking about after all. These tablets will be Flash 10.1 compatible at their release time, a feature not likely to be featured on the iPad too soon.

iPad Interface Reaches the iPhone, iPod touch (Video)
Jan 31, 2010 Apple Tablet
If you’ve been drooling over the whole Apple iPad thingie, but you won’t spend $500 on the device, you can pretend you’re using a tinier version of the tablet by porting its UI on your iPhone or iPod touch. The port will give you the needed 3D extra to make the iPhone interface look cool, complete with the iBooks option and a couple of other iPad-related touches. All you need is a jailbroken iPhone/ iPod touch and here’s how it all looks like:
In order to perform the port, you’ll be using Cydia, then you’ll install Winterboard, the “Simple iPad” theme and MakeItMine also through Cydia, in order to change the on-screen carrier to “iPad”. Afterwards, you’ll have to download the Shrink app to reduce the size of the icons and install ProSwitcher for some multitasking.
Last, you can install NY Times, Classics and Kindle apps in order to mess with ebooks. The result is… a little bit of the iPad on your very own handset.

HTC Magnum, Uber Smartphone or Tablet PC?
Jan 29, 2010 HTC
These days we’ve heard the name Magnum quite a bit, but not related to HTC, since it was a BlackBerry handset we’ve come across. Back to HTC, we’ve just discovered what they call the HTC Magnum tablet, an impressive device with an 11 inch OLED display, that gets checked out in action in the video below:
This uber-tablet might be a fake, but it sure is big, even for graphical designers looking for a huge resolution. The device uses a Marvell 800 MHz CPU, comes with 80GB storage space, 2GB ROM, 512MB RAM, GPS, WiFi and WiMAX connectivity. Bluetooth 2.0 and HSDPA (7.2 Mbps) are also on board and its battery is able to make the tablet operate for 30 hours (wow!).
The product weighs about 730 grams and we still say this is too good to be true.

Concept UI for Tablets Shows the Apple iNote in Action (Video)
Jan 27, 2010 Apple Tablet, Concept tablets
We know you’re tired of seeing Apple Tablet concepts, leaks, ads, photos and whatnot so we give you a sneak preview into the future of tablets UI. This video shows an incredibly finger-friendly and innovative way of controlling/unlocking a tablet PC. The user is supposed to manage the system with his thumbs, while holding the tablet with two hands:
The unlock screen shows basic info like the weather, time, a calendar and probably a bunch more data if you add widgets. There are two sliders included in the unlock screen, both used to unlock the device and relying on your right/left handed nature.
Overall, the interface of the device looks like a hybrid between HTC’s TouchFLO 3D and Apple’s iPhone OS, plus a touch of Mac OS.

Sports Illustrated Gets Its Own Touch Tablet (Video)
Dec 4, 2009 Tablet related
Sports Illustrated is meant to enter the digital world on the hardware side, since the company has recently demoed a future magazine concept. The new system will support text and multimedia content in an intuitive way and the device will look something like the one in the image below.
There’s also a video demo below, in case you’re wondering what the device looks like. Time Inc. also has a software demo running on a HP tablet PC, the app being the result of the cooperation between the publisher, Wonderfactoy and some Adobe AIR involvement.
Simple gestures and multitouch are used for navigation, plus there’s a control wheel in the mix, used to snip sections of text and images. Sharing via social networking services (Twitter/Facebook) is also supported, as well as page saving, bookmarking or linking into multimedia content.
It’s very possible that we’ll see an app for various touchscreen platforms, instead of a hardware reader, with a release date possibly scheduled for mid 2010.

Chrome OS Gets Demoed on Asus T91 MT (Video)
Nov 28, 2009 Almost a tablet, Tablet OS and UI
If you’re one of the impatient folks waiting for Google Chrome OS, know that it recently got demoed on an Asus T91 MT with touchscreen on board. A good calibration is what the device needs, but the experience is pretty good overall and the system runs smoothly. Shipping in 2010, destined to gain a huge market share… will you spend bucks on a Chrome OS PC?
Also, will you consider keeping all your data on a cloud-based solution instead of your own hard drive? A statistic would be interesting to see, concerning the safety of data stored on a HDD versus data stored on clouds.
Remember what happened to T-Mobile and Sidekicks? Want to risk?

Windows Mobile 6.5 MID C-Motech Mangrove Gets Demoed (Video)
Nov 25, 2009 C-motech
We’ve talked about C-Motech’s Mangrove MID a bunch of times before, specially because we were impressed by its specs and design. Now, the device gets checked out in a video demo below and we learn that it comes with 1GB of RAM and a 7 inch WVGA touchscreen display.
There’s also a Snapdragon CPU underneath the case and the OS of choice is, in this case Windows Mobile 6.5. You can use a stylus to control the device and you have to notice the very annoying tendency of the screen to rotate the image with every movement of the user, just like the iPhone.

Dell Mini 9 Tablet Modded With an Accelerometer
Nov 10, 2009 Dell
Dell Mini 9 is the first tablet made by Dell and it has suffered (or enjoyed) tons of MODs over the past months. Aside from the Tablet Mod, you can now find out details about the Accelerometer Mod, on the same touchscreen-based tablet.
This Mod will make anyone waiting for an Apple Table jealous, at least till Cupertino releases its brainchild. There’s a full guide on how to make this mod possible over here and you should know that it involves iRotate, allowing one to use a key combination to rotate the screen.
Xpadder enables the user to map the keys to controller buttons from a gamepad and you’ll have it sensing a change in orientation, if that’s needed. All of this software works perfectly with Windows 7.
