JooJoo Tablet Tested by Gizmodo (Video)
Dec 14, 2009 JooJoo
As we’ve found out previously, the Crunchpad tablet is now known as JooJoo and after seeing it in the loving hands of the CNET folks, it’s time for it to be messed with by the Gizmodo guys. This device uses a 1.6 GHz Atom processor, 1GB RAM, but the rest of its specs are kept a secret by the folks of Fusion Garage, for now.
Gizmodo supposes that there’s an Nvidia Ion chipset under the hood, ready to handle 1080p YouTube video on the 12 inch display of the tablet, supporting a 1366 x 768 pixels resolution. JooJoo also packs a headphone jack, a microphone jack, a 1.3 megapixel webcam, a charging port and a USB port.
The reviewers tested this gadget’s web browsing experience, discovering an accelerometer that detects between vertical and horizontal orientations and finding the browsing to be pretty neat. JooJoo’s body is solid, the screen is bright and the back of the device is curved and plasticky in a good way.

Cyberus Smart Info Tablet Reviewed, Considered a Disappointment
Dec 12, 2009 Tablet related
You can tell from the image below that the Cyberus Smart Info Tablet is a disappointment, but let’s not get fooled by appearances. The sad thing is that there’s also a review out there, courtesy of Gadgetell, who also found this device to be a let down. The tablet is an Ebook reader, a web surfing gizmo, a PMP with Internet radio and PND functions.
Gadgetell’s review mentions the frustrations of the UI, because of the non-standard layout of the virtual keyboard and the overall underwhelming experience it provides. Also, the ePUB ebook format is not supported, so you’ll only be using PDF, TXT or HTML files if you’re into portable reading.
The fonts are quite ugly, while the navigation is glitchy, specially the page-turning mechanism. Video playback doesn’t take advantage of the full 7 inch screen, being limited to a small box, plus the quality is disappointing as well. Multitasking is also lacking, to complete the list of flaws of this $249 device.
The conclusion? Buy an iPod touch or a decent ebook reader!

Optima OP5-E MID Runs Maemo Linux, Gets Reviewed (Video)
Dec 8, 2009 Almost a tablet
China Telecom has a cool Maemo device available on the local market, Optima OP5-E, while the manufacturer of the product is trying to go international by looking for distributors. The folks of armdevices received a review unit of the MID and took some hands on time with it, the result being the video you can view after the break.
The Optima device features a 4.3 inch 800 x 480 resistive touchscreen display, a 806 MHz Marvell PXA310+ ARM processor, 128MB of RAM and a SIM card reader (3G CDMA). GPS and Bluetooth are also on board, together with an exchangeable 2600 mAh battery. The price of the MID is $500 unlocked, but it can even go for $300 if subsidized.
VOIP and IM should also be supported, as well as regular voice and SMS, but that’s the carrier’s decision, once it adopts the device. Optima OP5-E is the first Maemo device not made by Nokia and a very strong competitor for Android tablets. Full review can be found here and hands on action in the video below.

Archos 5 Internet Tablet, Android Version, 32GB SSD Gets Reviewed
Dec 7, 2009 Archos
Archos 5 just got reviewed by the folks of UMPC Portal, who checked out the Android version of the tablet, packing a 32GB SSD. Here’s the result of the unboxing experience, in the image below and there’s also some unboxing action after the break, in the video.
The first tests of the device revealed a pretty unstable unit, with tons of bugs, but now it seems that in the last months Archos released enough firmware updates to make the tablet much more user-friendly. Web based apps get all the praise, as does the web browsing experience, superior to any 3.5 inch 800 x 480 smartphone on the market, thanks to the extra screen space.
A disappointment of this product is the lack of Google Apps, contacts sync, map apps and Android Marketplace, making Archos 5 an incomplete Google Android device. The SSD version is slick, smooth, uses a glossy finish and very few buttons, for an elegant look. There’s a polished metal case at the back doing the trick, but the tablet tends to get slippery in the long run.
The review also mentions Archos 5 as an ergonomic device, with a very neat stand, that’s strong and well hidden, for a better look. Behind the 10mm thick case of this Android-based tablet, there’s an ARM Cortex A8 CPU @ 600 MHz, 32GB of flash storage, 128MB RAM, a GPS chip, with the flaws of the lack of a camera, 3G support and cellular voice capacity.

Archos 5 Internet Tablet (Android Version) Gets Reviewed
Nov 12, 2009 Archos
The folks of Crunchgear have been playing with the Archos 5 Internet Tablet for about a month now, in its Android version. They have the 32GB flash version, a pretty compact tablet and a very compelling device, with a great battery life, huge list of features and functions, plus a neat web browser.
One should keep in mind that this Internet tablet doesn’t provide access to the Android Market, but its specs will quickly make you forget about this downside: 4.8 inch 800 x 480 touchscreen display, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, 22 hours of audio playback, 7 hours of video thanks to the great battery and a microSD card slot.
Archos 5 with Android retails for $379.99 and can be considered a jack of all trades device, supporting tons of audio and video codecs, web surfing, email, GPS, streaming, digital video recording, gaming, photo editing and more. On the cons side, we find the price a bit big, specially since you have to pay to unlock extra features (GPS subscription, DVR functionality) and we miss Android Market.
The full review is available here, if you want more details.
