Apple Tablet, Confirmed by France Telecom/Orange Official

Although Apple has yet to mention anything regarding its upcoming tablet (possibly named iSlate or Magic Slate), we’ve just found out that the device was mentioned by a France Telecom official. His name is Stéphane Richard and we remind you that France Telecom owns Orange. In a recent interview with French channel Europe 1, the exec confirmed that an Apple Tablet with a webcam on board will arrive at the end of the month.

He confirms the exiseance of the product after the 6:00 minute in the video below:

The official also mentioned that Orange customers will be able to purchase the product, but he said nothing about the price or features of the device. Gathering all the speculations and rumours together, we have a very cool Apple Tablet (iSlate) getting ready for this month’s debut and probably shipping this Spring, all over the world.

Our biggest question is whether or not the device will sport a 10 inch display, or will it be a 7 inch panel?

LG GW990 MID/Phone Shown at CES 2010, Coming in 2H 2010

LG’s GW990 is a pretty strange device, since it manages to blur the line between smartphone and MID even more. A couple of inches more and we would have had a tablet on our hands, not that a 4.8 inch display is tiny. This uber smartphone uses Intel’s Moorestown CPU, plus the same company’s Moblin OS, an open source platform based on Linux.

Expect the device to be available starting with the second half of 2010, packing a wonderful 4.8 inch widescreen touch display, supporting HSPA connectivity, HD playback and 3D gaming. There’s also WiFi and A-GPS on board, plus a digital compass and a 5 megapixel camera.

LG GW990 uses a custom UI, that when shown in landscape mode, divides the screen into 3 segments, allowing the user to control different functions of the smartphone simultaneously. Using this, you’ll be able to check your email, watch movies, chat via IM and find an address via GPS, at the same time.

Notion Ink’s Tablet to be Called Adam, Launched in June 2010

As we previously informed you in an older story, there’s a cool tablet coming from India, bearing the Notion Ink branding. Now, the device gets a name, Adam and a release date: June 2010. The product will have pretty incredible specs, like an impressive battery life, plus a Tegra and Pixel Qi combo.

At this point, Notion Ink is discussing a couple of tests in the 3G connectivity department, both with Indian and US operators. The device’s 3G bands are compatible with AT&T’s network, so this is a golden opportunity for the carrier to get a new cash cow, specially if they lose the iPhone to Verizon.

It’s possible that we’ll see a couple mode Pixel Qi devices getting launched till Adam hits the market, but its main appeal will remain the low price, about $321.

Apple Tablet/iSlate Rumours Increase Apple Stock Value for Xmas

In case Steve Jobs and his Cupertino folks wanted a Christmas gift related to their company, the surely got it. As shown in the graph below, Apple’s stock climbed quite a lot recently, during the Xmas period, as people started buying the company’s shares, while the rumours regarding the tablet are pouring in from everywhere.

Last we heard, the device was headed to an unveiling on January 26th, at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, California. As Cupertino refuses to comment on rumours, we also learn that the tablet might be called the “iSlate”, a brand that’s owned by Apple through some mystery company.

The iSlate.com domain was listed as belonging to Apple back in 2007 for a brief period of time, so it’s very likely that the Apple Tablet will be called the iSlate after all. Everyone seems to be cashing in on the recent tablet mania… Will this stop in January?

2010, Dominated by Tablet PCs?

We’re nearing the end of 2009 and with the arrival of 2010, we notice that more and more companies are getting ready to launch tablet PCs. From Apple to Dell and from Asus to Microsoft, every major player on the computer market is getting ready to enter the tablet segment with a cool new product. Will 2010 be the year of the tablet? Let’s check out the main products in this segment, that are bound to be launched soon.

The JooJoo

Formerly known as Crunchpad, the JooJoo tablet is very much real, unlike the models we’re about to discuss. It’s even been tested by most important gadget blogs, who found it very satisfying and it comes with a 12 inch touchscreen, with a 1366 x 768 pixel resolution. It’s able to play 720p videos and its processor is a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom CPU, while the specs list also includes 1GB RAM, 4GB SSD memory, an USB 2.0 port, webcam and microphone.

A headphone jack is also on board, together with Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity, but the 3G is lacking. This device is already on sale and up for pre-orders, for $499 and things started off pretty weird for the product, with the whole TechCrunch – Fusion Garage scandal.

Dell Android Tablet

Dell also wants a piece of the tablet market, so it’s readying something cool to showcase at CES 2010. All we know right now is that the device will sport a 5 inch touchscreen, it’ll run Android and it’ll have cool multimedia features. Chances are that this is the Dell Streak we’re talking about, but the Moto Sholes tablet is also worth mentioning.

Expect the new product to debut in the UK first, followed by the States.

Asus Eee Pad

Asus wants to expand its Eee series of products by launching a tablet in 2010, dubbed the Eee Pad. This device will probably feature a display with a diagonal size between 4 and 7 inches (touchscreen).

It’ll also include PC and MID functions and the Eee Pad seems to be inspired by the rumoured Apple Tablet.

Microsoft Courier

First shown as a concept a couple of months ago, this hot looking device is very much real, but it caters more to the e-reader side of things. Microsoft Courier will feature two 7 inch displays, a built in camera and WiFi.

Multitouch and stylus are both supported and it seems that the Courier will be destined to be more of a paper day planner gone digital or a device for people into sketching and design.

Apple Tablet

We left the best for last, since the Apple Tablet is our daily rumour for the past couple of months. It’ll sport a 9 to 10 inch touchscreen, be priced as high as $1000 and probably get announced in January.

The latest rumours have it ready for sale in March/April and its design makes it look like a bigger iPod Touch-MacBook combo.

Which of these devices will get the best sales in 2010? What do you think?

Apple Courting Broadcast and Cable Networks, Tablet to be Launched Next Month?

World Street Journal and Financial Times have new pieces on the Apple Tablet and such great names are to be believed when they say that the device will debut next month, right? Financial Times claims that Apple has been in touch with broadcast and cable networks, like Time Warner’s Turner Broadcasting System and Viacom, in order to kick off new services related to the upcoming tablet.

While Apple has been able to convince book publishers to join in, the broadcast network representatives aren’t yet on board. If the cooperation does take off, Time Warner and Viacom will basically sign the end of the cable era and the beginning of a new type of services.

The same papers mentioned above claim that the Apple Tablet will debut in January 2010, with mass production starting in February. The publications seem pretty confident, but it’s all speculation at this point.

JooJoo, Formerly CrunchPad Gets Handled by CNET

In an interesting twist of events, we’ve found out that the Crunchpad is very much alive and it’ll now be known as JooJoo. The device was showcased to the journalists of CNET, who played with it during Fusion Garage’s CEO Chandra Rathakrishnan’s San Francisco media tour. The conclusion of the reviewers was that this is a very cool tablet, but the $499 price tag might be too much for it.

joojoo1

JooJoo is a web slate with a 12.1 inch touchscreen display (capacitive), supporting a 1366×768 pixel resolution and also packing a camera, a mic, speakers, a single USB port and a card slot. 4GB of cache memory are also on board, while the processor is still a mystery that will probably be revealed in a couple of days or so

joojoo2

The device is very slim, even thinner than the MacBook Air and has a nice feel to it, while the plastic back is gently curved. JooJoo runs a Linux-based OS, uses a Webkit-based browser with support for Flash, but without non-Web apps (no Skype). Booting the JooJoo only takes 9 seconds and it seems that the tablet is centred around its browser and web features.

WiFi loads the pages reasonably and scrolling through them is done by dragging the finger on the screen. Also, a pinch/zoom gesture will lead you back to the home screen. Expect the device to be fully reviewed this month and shipped in 8 to 10 weeks. The question is: will you spend $500 for it?

Google Chrome OS, Perfect for Tablets?

Google has recently unveiled details about its upcoming OS, Chrome, a very lightweight platform, based on a web browser and ideal for netbooks. The operating system focuses on speed, more than anything, since Chrome OS features a boot time of 7 seconds, allowing the users to log in afterwards.

gchrome-660x427

The first portable devices to run Chrome OS (netbooks and tablets) will hit the market in late 2010, according to Google’s officials. Turns out that the OS won’t be available as a download on PCs, but it’ll only be shipping on Google hardware partners’ products. That means that if you want Chrome OS, you’ll have to purchase a Chrome device, among which there will be netbook-style computers.

They’ll sport full size keyboards, large trackpads and large displays, as far as we know. Another advantage of the upcoming OS-device combo will be the lack of a hard drive, replaced by Internet-based storage. You also have to know that the applications will be web-based, so you won’t have to install apps, backup data or other such tasks.

Chrome OS is a completely open source, Linux-based operating system that allows any developer to use the open code and create new software. Web apps and lightweight netbooks to be the future? What do you say?

Dell and AT&T to Introduce a MID in 2010?

Dell is going to launch an Android smartphone in 2010, that’s for sure and they’ll do it by working with AT&T, but now it seems that this cooperation will spawn yet another product, a MID. China Times claims that Dell will prepare a bunch of MIDs produced by Taiwanese company Qisda.

Dell-Streak-MID-ATT

We don’t have any info on the AT&T-branded MID, that might just be the device pictured above, Dell Streak. This device recently surfaced in Vietnam, running Android 2.0 and packing a 5 megapixel camera, plus support for 3G connectivity and WiFi. An official confirmation is all we need, at this point.

Apple Tablet to Come as Two Different Models? Bootup Video Appears

We’re reviewing the rumours regarding Apple’s tablet and we’ve come across some pretty interesting info about the device. Also, there’s a probably fake video showing the supposed tablet made in Cupertino in action, but you can check it out below, if you want more proof:

Some even say that the Apple Tablet will come in two versions, one with educational purposes and one with a webcam on board. It also appears that the tablet packs an OLED screen, a 10 inch one, that’ll make it look like sort of a giant iPhone. A Gizmodo tipster even claims that he handled a mockup tablet of this kind and mentions it uses a Home button, just like the iPhone.

Even a price tag popped up, somewhere between $700 and $900 and the launch date could be either the holiday season in 2009, or the beginning of 2010. Since we’re talking about rumours, there’s always the bootup of the Apple tablet OS, that is apparently captured on camera below, if you believe it:
