Apple Tablet Will Run iPhone OS, Confirmed by McGraw-Hill CEO (Video)

Today is the big Apple Tablet launch day, as far as we’re concerned and although nobody from Apple confirmed it, other officials from third party companies did. One of them is McGraw-Hill’s CEO, who recently claimed in an interview with CNBC that his company’s textbooks will be on the Apple Tablet and that the device will run the iPhone OS.

He talks about these things in the video below (2m 50s):

The man claims that Apple will make the big announcement today and that his company has been working with the Cupertino firm for quite a while. Apparently, they’ll deliver e-books on the new platform, opening the tablet up for the “higher education market, the professional market”.

So… we expect the tablet not only to reach gadget freaks, but also students, colleges, hospitals, professors and other market segments.

Apple Tablet to Aid Doctors?

Since the Apple Tablet (iPad/iSlate) is supposedly a week away from its launch, we might as well look into the potential of this device. It turns out that the gadget would make a good tool for doctors and people from the medical segment. Some even claim that time Steve Jobs spent in the hospital in recent years, made him realize that doctors need a new digital tool for their work.

The rumour even has a decent basis, as Jason Wilk, an entrepreneur claims that the Apple representatives have recently met with administrators at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in LA, in order to discuss the potential use of the upcoming tablet as a medical device. Low cost should be crucial for such a product!

Apple’s Tablet to be Called the iPad? New Trademark Recently Filed Proves This

Although we were already keen on the name Magic Slate or iSlate for Apple’s Tablet, a recent trademark filing proved us wrong, mentioning the name “iPad” as the one of the upcoming device. MacRumors have got the scoop on this and although Apple defended the iSlate trademark pretty well, their dummy corporation, Slate Computing, LCC also took care of the “iPad” trademark.

The application was filed back in July 2009, more recently than those for the iSlate, from the 2006-2007 period. Slate Computing, LCC applied for this trademark in Canada, because in the US Fujitsu has control over this brand, related to handheld computing. Similar applications were also filed in Europe and Hong Kong in July.

Over the past week, new iPad trademark applications have been discovered in New Zealand and Australia, proving that Apple is covering its back. As you can see in the image above, one of them was filed on Friday, January 15th 2010. The company doing the work is IP Application Development, LLC, probably another Apple-sent dummy.

So, this is it folks: until further info the Apple Tablet is unofficially known as the iPad!

10 Inch Apple Tablet Glass Image Surfaces on the Web

The Apple Tablet/iSlate rumours continue, this time with a picture of a 10 inch Apple Tablet glass, published on the web just recently and available below, for you all to see. We remind you that Apple’s tablet is yet to be announced, but it might become official during the company’s event scheduled for January 27th in San Francisco.

The image of the glass published above looks very much like something you’d attach to a giant iPod. If this is a genuine pic, we’d have to say that the top slot is destined to host the speaker, while the upper left hole might incorporate a camera lens. The button on the lower side might be the Home button, just like with the iPhone.

Rumour? Fake? Real?

Orange Denies Apple Tablet/iSlate…VP’s Words Misinterpreted

You might remember that Orange France exec Stéphane Richard confirmed the existence of the Apple iSlate tablet just yesterday, during one of his official statements. Well, now it turns out that his words were misinterpreted or better said “taken out of context” and the exec was in fact claiming that he knew about the Apple Tablet rumours.

Also, the official position of the French carrier Orange is that they know nothing about the tablet, but they acknowledge the existence of speculations regarding the iSlate. This is a tense time of the year, with the Apple event coming on January 27th, CES 2010 barely finished and MWC 2010 coming, too.

Everyone’s hunting for leaks, secret info and hidden messages, so even a few harmless words can be heard wrong. Two more weeks till the San Francisco event and things will get clear… hopefully.

Suppliers Getting Parts Ready for Apple Tablet, Say Sources

ABC News claims that parts for the upcoming Apple Tablet are on the move, with only two weeks ahead of the supposed debut of the iSlate. We remind you that Apple has an official event scheduled on January 27th, so that might be the perfect opportunity to launch the new product.

As far as its parts are concerned, touchscreens are already shipping, specially from Cupertino partner Wintek, but also Taiwanese company TPK Solutions. Casings are made by AVY Precision Technology and they’ll go into production, too, say the same sources.

It seems that Apple Tablet’s cases will start production in February, so a second quarter launch seems more likely right now. While spokespeople of all the involved companies refuse to comment on these speculations, what’s certain is that we’re approaching the unveiling of the tablet, whenever that is.

Apple Tablet’s Component Prices Leaked, Cupertino to Spend $340 on iSlate?

We’re a bit more than 2 weeks away from the supposed debut of the Apple Tablet, during the event scheduled by the Cupertino company on January 27th. Leaks are pouring in from everywhere and this time we’re being treated to a tablet showing the costs of the components incorporated by Apple’s new device.

According to analyst Jeffredy Fidacaro, Apple will spend around $340 for each iSlate model, if that’s the final name of the product. These are mere rumours, but we notice that the 1.8 inch 160GB HDD is the most expensive on the list, going for $75. The ATOM processor and board are next, with a $70 price tag, followed by the display, that costs $50 (as much as the graphics or similar processor, on the list).

The 2GB DRAM memory will cost $39, while the manufacturing is a mere $7. Considering that Apple plans to sell the tablet for $800 – $1000, they’ll be making quite a profit out of the new gizmo, don’t you think?

3D Graphics to be Supported by Apple’s Upcoming iSlate Tablet?

Recent rumours related to Apple upcoming tablet (the supposed iSlate) claim that the device will support 3D graphics of some sort. A recent patent filling might give you some details on this feature, specially since it mentions a “touch screen device, method and graphical user interface for manipulating three-dimensional virtual objects”.

This technology should work perfectly on a multi touch device, but we really wonder what “three dimensional virtual objects” could mean on a tablet. It could be the handling of images, gaming in 3D, perhaps even 3D movies. we have doubts that Apple will really implement such a feature on its new device, just like we did when the first specs list of the iSlate leaked out and it included a built in projector.

People are expecting too much from this tablet and they might be disappointed in the end…

Apple Tablet Concept Looks About Right – Magic Slate/ iSlate?

We’ve become so paranoid over Apple’s tablet that we think every concept and design we spot on the web is the real thing. One of the candidates for such an assumption is the following concept, created by Rodolphe Desmare and pictured below. Dubbed the Magic Slate or the iSlate, this tablet is an incredibly thin device that uses the resized version of the iPhone apps.

Magic Slate is a full touchscreen device, that probably packs a 7 to 10/11 inch display, runs a modified version of Mac OS (or maybe the iPhone OS?) and gets all the connectivity options it might need. Too bad we have no specs for this baby, else it would have made our day…

Remember that Apple has an event scheduled for January 26th (or 27th, according to some), so the tablet might see the light of day then. Hopefully it will look something like this.

Apple to Announce its Tablet on January 27th, Device Shipping in March; Devs Playing with Beta SDK

John Paczkowski from All Things D claims that Apple will announce a major product on Wednesday, January 27th and not the 26th, as we last heard. Also, French site Mac4Ever mentions that developers were given a chance to play with the iPhone OS 4 SDK, that allows them to reformat and scale apps for bigger screens (translation: tablets).

We’ve heard the theory regarding the iPhone apps also coming to the iSlate/Apple tablet, so this piece of info can only strengthen the theory. Also, the Wall Street Journal went out and published a piece on a “new multimedia tablet device” that will be launched later this month and it’ll feature a 10 or 11 inch touchscreen.

Shipment is mentioned to be scheduled for March and the product is supposed to redefine the way consumers interact with all sorts of content. WSJ strikes again!
