CES 2010: Notion Ink Adam Tablet Hands on Experience Detailed
Jan 10, 2010 Tablet related
Notion Ink brought is cool Adam tablet at CES 2010, getting a lot of attention for the device, specially because it packs an Nvidia Tegra 2 chipset and it’s the first to use a Pixel Qi display. The folks of Slashgear got some quality time with the device and we had a look at their impressions in the following lines.
Keep in mind that this is a prototype and Adam’s casing is not in its final version/design. The final product will be only 14mm thick, or even 12mm, with a very tiny bezel and packing a 10.1 inch Pixel Qi transflective screen. This is a capacitive toucshcreen display, that can recognize 6 simultaneous points of contact.
The device supports WiFi and 3G and thanks to its Tegra 2 CPU, Adam is 1080p capable and there’s a HDMI port on board, ready to output video to a HDTV or a projector. Notion Ink’s Adam runs Android and the final version will sport an UI that brings with it a cool keyboard that’s very ergonomic for a large touchscreen.
Pixel Qi technology is basically a display that can be operated as a full color LCD indoors or as a low power reflective screen outdoors. The tablet also features an accelerometer and a new 3 megapixel camera with a “patented swivel action”. More details about the prototype, in the video below:

CES 2010: Dell’s Streak Android Tablet Gets Demoed
Jan 9, 2010 Dell
We’ve heard about Dell Streak quite a while ago, October 2009 to be more precise, but now it’s time to get up close and personal with the tablet, since CES 2010 is going on these days. The device is a 5 inch MID, that was available in Las Vegas as a prototype, referred to by its maker as the “Dell Tablet Concept”.
Dell Streak runs Android OS, comes with a 5 megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash, 3G connectivity and probably some AT&T services supported, since the carrier is working closely with Dell lately. In case you didn’t know, AT&T will be selling the Android-based Dell Mini 3 smartphone, so it wouldn’t surprise us to see the Streak in the operator’s portofolio.
After a couple of seconds of hands on experience, the folks of Pocket-lint and a few other sites present at CES claimed that the Dell tablet is very thin and promising. We’ll wait for the final spec sheet and more details, till we give a verdict.

Turns out that the tablet is very much like an Amazon Kindle or Barnes & Noble nook, as far as looks are weight are concerned. Build quality is pretty good, or so claim the folks who got hold of the device, that can be yours for a pretty reasonable amount of cash: $399. Its specs include WiFi, Bluetooth, a 7 inch WVGA touchscreen display and Camangi’s own download store (Camangi Market).
Real world performance and a couple of days of testing will reveal the true potential of this Android tablet, but CES 2010 is coming and we’ll see even more interesting devices there.

JooJoo, Formerly CrunchPad Gets Handled by CNET
Dec 8, 2009 Tablet related
In an interesting twist of events, we’ve found out that the Crunchpad is very much alive and it’ll now be known as JooJoo. The device was showcased to the journalists of CNET, who played with it during Fusion Garage’s CEO Chandra Rathakrishnan’s San Francisco media tour. The conclusion of the reviewers was that this is a very cool tablet, but the $499 price tag might be too much for it.
JooJoo is a web slate with a 12.1 inch touchscreen display (capacitive), supporting a 1366×768 pixel resolution and also packing a camera, a mic, speakers, a single USB port and a card slot. 4GB of cache memory are also on board, while the processor is still a mystery that will probably be revealed in a couple of days or so
The device is very slim, even thinner than the MacBook Air and has a nice feel to it, while the plastic back is gently curved. JooJoo runs a Linux-based OS, uses a Webkit-based browser with support for Flash, but without non-Web apps (no Skype). Booting the JooJoo only takes 9 seconds and it seems that the tablet is centred around its browser and web features.
WiFi loads the pages reasonably and scrolling through them is done by dragging the finger on the screen. Also, a pinch/zoom gesture will lead you back to the home screen. Expect the device to be fully reviewed this month and shipped in 8 to 10 weeks. The question is: will you spend $500 for it?

Vega Tablet Prototype Gets Engadget Hands on Treatment
Dec 2, 2009 Tablet related
Engadget managed to score a unit of the mystery Android and Nvidia Tegra-based Vega tablet and they published their hands on experience for us all to see. Turns out that this is a prototype running Windows CE for now, probably because the device’s makers are fine tuning Android OS for the tablet.
The resistive touchscreen display is also not quite likeable for people accustomed with the quality of a new HTC smartphone let’s say. The Tegra hardware means that we’ll be seeing great performance on the device, specially when it comes to multimedia playback, gaming and other such features.
Engadget’s hands on experience demoes video playback at 1280 x 720 and the tablet handles it perfectly. Keep in mind that Zune HD and Vega share the Nvidia Tegra hardware, but the first is too small of a device to include a HD resolution display, so Vega will do HD decoding better.

NVIDIA Tegra Tablet is Real, Prototype Hands on Revealed
Nov 28, 2009 NVIDIA
Remember the recently published interview with NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang and the tablet he was messing with at that time? Turns out that the device was in fact an NVIDIA Tegra tablet prototype, that’s just been analyzed via hands on experience by the folks of Engadget.
This is a Windows CE-powered piece of gear, with a resistive touchscreen display (15/16 inches diagonal), Tegra internals that resemble the ones on Zune HD and much more. The maker of this tablet is ICD and a partner for the sales of the device might be T-Mobile.
NVIDIA’s device is far from being finished, but it’s a prototype after all and it’s pretty good for what it’s supposed to be. The tablet is under an inch in thickness, supports 720p video playback and even comes with a wireless recharge station, a sort of base accessory that allows the gadget to recharge in upright position.
Who cares about the Apple Tablet when you see a great idea like this?
