Apple, Ordering Tablet Components? Connectors and 10 Inch Screen Included

The Economic Daily paper from Taiwan has a piece on the fact that Cheng Uei Precision Industry has received a pretty important order from Apple. Apparently, we’re dealing with “connectors” for the the Cupertino company’s new Tablet PCs. The same report says that the tablet is likely to start shipping in Q3 2010.

Meanwhile, we learn via Digitimes that Innolux, a Foxconn subsidiary that makes panels will provide Apple with touch panels for its new product. Rumor has it that the deal will involve 10 inch panels, as previously speculated by major tech blogs. This is just another one of the huge series of rumours surfacing recently about the Apple Tablet.

The mystery will blow away on January 26th 2010, when Apple has scheduled a pretty important event in San Francisco, probably related to their new device.

Apple Engineers Travelling to China; Working on Tablet?

It turns out that Apple’s employees have taken lots of trips to manufacturing plants in China recently and they also have similar visits scheduled for this winter and the holiday season. Could this be related to the Apple Tablet rumours? The Business Insider quoted an anonymous source, saying that the Cupertino engineers have visited Asians manufacturing plants, with the clear favourite being Foxconn, Apple’s long time partner.

This could indeed mean that Foxconn is involved in the making of the tablet, as speculated previously, plus the fact that the engineers will also be working on Christmas time means that Apple is trying hard to meet a certain deadline. Could it be the launch in Q1 2010 that everyone is talking about?

Early reports show that the initial run of the product might include the production of 300,000 to 400,000 devices, ready for sale.

Apple Slate is the Tablet We’ve Been Waiting for, SIM-tray Spotted

After long months of speculations and waiting we’ve finally got some proof that the Apple tablet is real and even a name for it: the Apple Slate. During a speech to the digital group at the New York Times, Bill Keller casually mentions this name and also claims that its launch is imminent. If you don’t believe us, watch the video below and skip straight to 8:30 for the two words we’ve been waiting for:

New York Times will be bringing content to said device and Keller introduced the tablet by saying something like “I’m hoping we can get the newsroom more actively involved in the challenge of delivering our best journalism in the form of Times Reader, iPhone apps, WAP, or the impending Apple slate…”

It doesn’t get more clear than that, I suppose and in other news the folks of Slashgear spotted a SIM-tray that might as well belong to the fresh Apple slate. Foxconn will be making the device once again and worst case scenario, the component pictured below is part of the next generation of iPhones, which is still good news.

This SIM-tray will go on sale for $14.05 and by looking at it we can tell that it’s larger than the one on the iPhone 3GS, uses a new extraction mechanism, it includes a metal frame and has a bigger outer curve radius. The latter feat suggests that it’ll be incorporated in a device that’s thicker than the iPhone 3GS.

So, Apple when are you going to announce that Slate of yours?

DigiTimes is the source of this rumour and they also claim that the Cupertino company’s new toy will have initial shipments of about 300,000 to 400,000 units. Last we heard, Quanta was deemed to be Apple’s manufacturing partner for this portable device, but rumours have changed and DigiTimes also claim that Innolux Display will be supplying the panels for the device.

This is a Foxconn subsidiary and the set of rumours ends here, for now, but who knows what they’ll come up with next?
