FirstView $95 Android/Win CE Tablet Looks Good, Was Featured at CeBIT
Mar 12, 2010 Tablet related
Would you believe that the tablet in the image below goes for a mere $95 and it runs Android? Showcased at CeBIT 2010, the FirstView PC607V tablet uses an appealing skin on top of Windows CE, while companies like Forsa and Huawei chose Android over this platform. There’s also an Android 1.4 version of this MID/tablet, a strange choice of version, specially since as far as we know Android 1.4 doesn’t exist, so it must be Android 1.5.
Rumour has it that PC607V will be getting the Android 2.0/2.1 in the future, although it hasn’t been confirmed yet. It’s also pretty interesting to notice that the device is supposed to have a 10.1 inch resistive touch display, while some sites reports that it comes with a 7 inch screen.
Other specs include a 60GB HDD, WiFi b/g, webcam, built in speakers, 2 USB ports, an SD slot, a HDMI slot, 2 headphone ports and a 4500 mAh battery.

Dell Mini 5 Prototype Gets Messed With
Feb 24, 2010 Dell
The lucky folks of Engadget got the chance to play around with a Dell Mini 5 prototype, that you can check out in the following images. The device is also known as the Dell Streak or the M01M. This can be considered an Android-based MID with a 3G phone inside and guess what… if fits your pocket. What tablet can do that?
The device runs Android 1.6, features a 5 inch 800 x 480 pixel capacitive touchscreen, a Snapdragon QSD8250 chipset (1GHz clocked CPU), WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth and support for WCDMA connectivity. Dell Mini 5 is only 10mm thick, it weighs 8 ounces, with the battery included. The latter provides almost a day of normal usage with 3G on.
As far as memory is concerned, you get 405MB RAM, 1.63GB of internal storage and some microSD card action. Engadget’s tests have shown that the MID supports the usual Google bundle: Google Mail, YouTube, a WebKit browser (pinch to zoom included), Google Maps and more. Social networking integration is lacking from this prototype, at least from its home screen, but we’re hoping for a feature like MOTOBLUR in the final release.

MWC 2010: Mastone Prowave, an Android Tablet Alternative to Archos Products
Feb 20, 2010 Tablet related
Archos has quite a neat bunch of Android tablets prepared for release, but there’s another product you might consider, the Mastone Prowave, recently showcased at MWC 2010. Shown at Freescale’s booth, the device is a compact touchscreen tablet based on Freescale’s i.MX515 chipset, just like one of the prototype tablets on display at CES 2010.
Mastone Prowave’s features include WiFi, 3G an USB port, an integrated webcam and also on the specs list there’s the Android UI, in a customized version, complete with new apps and widgets. The Performance is OK, as is build quality, or so claim the folks who have tested the device in Barcelona.
The tablet sports a brushed metal body, buttons with a solid feeling and we have to mention a flaw of the device: the resistive touchscreen display. Speculations claim that this product could sell for as low as $200, which is good news for any pocket.

HTC Android Tablet Gets Canned
Feb 1, 2010 HTC
HTC has recently announced that, although it was in the process of developing both an Android and Chrome OS tablet, the project was canned. Apparently, they want to focus on Android smartphones, without distractions like a new tablet on their hands. HTC will probably want to evaluate the tablet segment and see how well Apple iPad performs on this young market.
First of all, if the Taiwanese company wants to succeed, it’ll have to compete with the like of the Archos 5 Android tablet or the really cool products made by Lenovo. Dell’s also got a pretty appealing device of its own and we’re not even talking about the NVIDIA Tegra 2-based tablets coming soon.
What could HTC bring new to the table in order to smash the competition?

NVIDIA Tegra 2 Multi-Core CPU Shows its Power on Android Tablets (Video)
Feb 1, 2010 Apple Tablet
Well, we’re done with the Apple iPad tablet launch, so it’s up to the Android tablets to rule the game in this segment. In case you’re interested in seeing the brand new NVIDIA Tegra 2 multi-core CPU in action on a bunch of prototype Android tablets, we’ve got the video below for show. Turns out that these devices are more flexible and functional than Apple’s gizmo:
These tablets are Flash compatible, they pack front facing cameras, support for multitasking and you can add extra memory to them via expandable storage. Among the products showcased in the video above, there’s an ICD tablet with a 7 inch resistive touchscreen and a model made by FoxConn, packing a 10 inch resistive touchscreen.
Both devices run on the NVIDIA Tegra 2 1 GHz multi core processor, providing speedy web surfing, Flash animations and support for true 1080p playback and high res photos. Full 3D gaming is also supported, since this is NVIDIA we’re talking about after all. These tablets will be Flash 10.1 compatible at their release time, a feature not likely to be featured on the iPad too soon.

MSI Readying $499 10 inch Tablet… Haven’t We Heard this Before?
Jan 29, 2010 MSI
Wait, where did we hear about a tablet that costs $499 and sports a 10 inch display? Could it be the Apple iPad? It seems that MSI also have a similar product ready, but we’re not mean enough to call it an iPad clone just yet, in spite of the identical pricing and similar display (10 inch is not 9.7 inch though).
DigiTimes informs us that the device will ship with an NVIDIA Tegra chipset and it’ll run Android, instead of Windows. Nothing is known about the product yet, apart from the fact that it’ll have “wireless support”. Does this include WiFi, 3G and Bluetooth?

CES 2010: Cydle M7 Android Tablet, Packs a TV Tuner and a… Stand
Jan 11, 2010 Tablet related
We know that the definition of a tablet is pretty much cancelled by a stand, so the Cydle M7 Android tablet is a pretty original gadget, showcased at CES 2010 these days. Said stand allows the device to be viewed in either landscape or portrait mode, just like a very cool monitor would.
Cydle M7 packs a 7 inch resistive touchscreen display, it uses beta Android software, an ATSC TV tuner and it comes with a $199 price tag. Apparently, this product will be used as a PC monitor as well and we learn that it also features a 800 MHz ARM11 processor and it’ll be available starting this Spring.
Also, its stand can act as a protective cover for the device, when not in use.
