Sinotech 7 inch iPad Clone Runs Android 2.1, Uses ARM11 Platform

It’s a bit funny to see a Chinese company promoting its product as an iPad clone, but Sinotech does it, without worrying about trademarks. The slate we’re talking about is pictured below and what’s interesting is that we have no official name for this product yet. It relies on the ARM11 platform, uses a 7 inch touchscreen and runs Android 2.1.

Under the shell there’s a 800 MHz Telechips 8902 chip, 256MB ROM, 4GB Flash storage and the specs list also includes a mini USB and HDMI port. 1080p video support and a screen resolution of 800 x 480 pixels complete the feature list. Price and launch date are as well known as the device’s name…

Steve Ballmer Mocks Android Tablets

Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer doesn’t think that Android’s good enough to conquer the tablet market, although odds are that it’s going to do so over the next two years. Speaking with analysts a week ago, the main man over at Microsoft said that the Redmond software giant has all the tools and user understanding to release competitive tablets.

Also, Ballmer praised Apple for its products, by simply saying that “Apple is Apple” and that they’re a tough cookie. All in all, the Microsoft CEO is right, since his company has been in the software platform biz for years now, but Android is surely a force to be considered, specially now that Google has reached 200k Android devices activated daily.

We’ll let the Windows Phone 7 figures speak…

OlivePad Tablet, an Oversized Android Handset

The technology has a funny way of evolving: over the past years smartphone screens have been increasing in size, reaching the point where the HTC EVO 4G brings out a 4.3 inch touchscreen. The next step is a blurry line between MID, tablet and smartphone, defined by Dell Streak and its 5 inch screen. We venture in the realm of slates with 7 inch displays, like the one pictured below, the OlivePad tablet.

This is an Android device, with a 7 inch capacitive touch display, with a 800 x 480 pixel resolution and we learn that it’s coming to India soon. Although this is not a phone, it still supports voice calls, but it’ll require a Bluetooth headset, if you want to get comfortable. OlivePad also features a Qualcomm MSM7227 600 MHz CPU, GSM/WCDMA connectivity, a 3 megapixel camera at the back and a front facing one.

You’ll also find 512MB RAM on board, 512MB ROM, an USB socket, WiFi and a 3.5mm audio jack. The slate runs Android 2.1 and it should be priced around $425 up to $530. No telling if this product will ever leave India.

Zenithink 10 inch Shanzaipad Android 2.1 Tablet is 1080p Capable

The device you can see in the following images is the Zenithink 10 inch tablet, an Android 2.1 slate packing a 1GHz ARM SoC and featuring a 1024 x 600 pixel display. This product is able to play 1080p video and although speculations aren’t 100% confirmed, we’ve heard the device relies on a Rockchip SoC that uses a Cortex A8 ARM core.

As far as the inputs and outputs are concerned, the tablet provides USB and mini USB, plus there’s an Ethernet port and maybe HDMI, although it’s not mentioned. In spite of the 1080p playing ability of the slate, it’s hard to believe one would use the device to play huge media files, specially since you’ll need to copy large files on flash cards, so it’ll take forever.

Shanzai.com mentions that it has found a certain compatibility between Android and the H.264 format, specially when compared to .wmv or .rmvb. However, iTunes on Android is something we don’t see happening too soon.

Compal 7 Inch Android Tablet Shows NVIDIA Tegra 2 Power on Camera (Video)

Compal 7 is an Android tablet that uses the famous Tegra 2 chips and NVIDIA’s solution is certainly put to good use, as shown by the video at the end of the article. This device was recently tested by the folks of netbooknews.com during the Netbook Summit, taking place in San Francisco and we can learn from their impressions after the break.

As far as the specs are concerned, Compal 7 features a 7 inch touchscreen, Android 2.1, a 3.5mm audio jack, HDMI and an SD card slot. The version shown in the following video is a prototype, as proved by its sluggishness and unresponsiveness. Android Community compared the device with a bigger Acer Liquid Android phone.

Rumour has it that this tablet will feature an ARM Cortex A9 CPU and it’ll integrate Flash and OpenGL 2.0. HDMI is also on board, with 1080p support and for some reason, there’s a 12 megapixel camera among the specs, in case the original source didn’t perform a type-o.
