Wacom Announces New Graphics Tablet: Cintiq 21UX, Worth $2k

Wacom is the brand you want to go with, when using a graphics tablet, so you’ll be happy to know that the company has just announced a new device, called Cintiq 21UX. This 21.1 inch tablet features a 4:3 LCD display with a 1600 x 1200 pixel r3solution and an active digitizer, able to recognize 2048 levels of pressure.

The graphical slate incorporates 8 programmable shortcut buttons on either side of the display, plus a touch strip on either side of the rear bezel. You’ll also be able to control up to 4 different functions with each strip thanks to toggle buttons.

There’s also a stylus bundled with the tablet and this accessory comes with a tilt range of +/-60 degrees. Wacom 21UX is able to rotate 180 degrees and tilt between 10 and 65 degrees. Supported connectivity included DVI-I and the price is… not cheap: $1999.99.

Electrovaya Scribbler SC4100 Touch Slate Uses Pen Input, Costs a Bunch

We truly hope that this is a mistake, but with a price of $2089, the appeal of this slate is certainly decreasing, before we even mention its specs. The Electrovaya Scribbler SC4100 tablet PC uses a slate form factor and comes with a touch display, plus a pen bundled with it. Under the hood there’s an Intel Core 2 Duo L7400 1.5GHz CPU and the incorporated screen is apparently made by Wacom.

Multitouch is not mentioned among the specs, although we hope it’s there and we learn that the device’s features are much the same with the ones on the SC4000 model. Among them there’s the above-mentioned 12.1 inch 1024 x 768 screen, a 45 Whr battery replacing the Super Lithium Polymer unit of the previous model and possibly a pretty good OS.

For $2000+ this gadget is certainly one for professionals…

There’s also a multifunction Touch Ring on board, for easier zooming and using shortcuts. Intuos4 is a tool for artists and designers and it uses a very natural-feeling pen, mimicking the movement of pen on paper. The new Wacom tablet is available in various sizes, from the Small with 6 keys and 24 square inches of drawing space, to the XL, with 218.4 square inches of drawing.

The smallest product of this line costs $229, while the medium goes for $349 (with 48.5 square inches of drawing room), the large costs $469 (102.5 square inches of drawing space) and the Intuos4XL retails for $789.
