Samsung Launches SNE-60K (E6) E-book Reader, Available in South Korea


Samsung has just launched a new e-book reader, the SNE-60/60K (also known as the E6) in South Korea. The device will be available locally starting this month via Kyobo and Samsung Digital Plaza Stores. The E6 is the successor to the SNE-50K e-reader.

Samsung’s new device comes with an extra inch of display, when compared to its predecessor, plus WiFi and 2GB of internal memory. You’ll be able to download all the needed e-books or newspapers from Kyobo via a wireless connection and we learn that the gadget also supports PDF-ePUB formats, MP3 playback and text-to-speech.

The device will be available starting February 8 with a $370 tag.

Samsung Introduces E6 and E101 E-readers in Russia

Samsung’s Russian division has just introduced the first electronic book readers, the E6 and E101 models. They both pack an electronic paper screen, the E6 sporting a 6 inch unit, while the E101 packs a 10 inch display. These screens provide clear image in direct sunlight and you have to know that these devices support popular ebook formats like ePub, PDF and TXT.

Samsung E6 and E101 come with built-in dictionaries and support stylus input, plus MP3 playback and audiobooks. There’s also a text to speech feature on board, handwriting recognition, calendars and reminders, plus a technology that avoids typing errors caused by accidental touch of fingers of objects.

Cut/copy/paste are also available and we learn that these new Ebook readers support WiFi 802.11 b/g, allowing books and newspapers downloads.

CES 2010: Samsung SWD-M100 Mondi is One Hot MID

Samsung Mondi (SWD-M100) further blurs the like between smartphone and MID, being a Windows Mobile Classic device, that sports WiMax radio. These feats make the Samsung handset a niche device, with pretty good : 4GB onboard storage, a microSD slot for more memory, 256MB RAM, a 3 megapixel camera, a sliding QWERTY keyboard and a big 4.3 inch WVGA screen.

Samsung Unveils E6 and E101 Ebook Readers, Complete With WiFi and Bluetooth

Samsung has just announced a couple of new Ebook readers, the E6 and the E101 models, sporting WiFi b/g and Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity. Samsung E6 comes with a 6 inch E-ink display, while the E101 features a 10 inch screen, both being touch models that work with a stylus.

Samsung is also working with Google to deliver ebook content on these two devices, probably using the titles taken from Google Books. Each of these readers comes with a slide-down panel, that hides the navigation and menu controls, plus stereo speakers. A single battery charge will make the E6 and E101 work for about two weeks, probably with the wireless deactivated.

Expect the products to hit the market in early 2010, with the Samsung E6 priced at $399 and the E101 going for $699.

Samsung Already Selling a Tablet! Q1 Ultra 7 Inch Model, Going for £359

Just a couple of hours ago we were talking about the possibility of Samsung joining the tablet-making crowd of companies, but now it turns out that they are already selling such a device. This was discovered by the folks of UMPC Portal, who uncovered the Samsung Q1 Ultra model, a 7 inch tablet PC, going for £359.

The device features 5 hours of battery life, a 1024 x 600 pixel screen and it weighs a mere 840 grams. Said product is available in the UK and its 7 inch display is a touchscreen, while the tablet also comes with a mini keypad, an 800 MHz Intel Stealey processor, a GMA950 GPU, stereo speakers, a stand, a 40GB HDD and the Windows XP OS, in a special edition of the device.

What’s really interesting is that Q1 Ultra has been on the market for over 2 years, but it’s still impressive enough to appeal to tablet adopters.

Samsung Readying Tablets With Multitouch and 3D Interfaces

Samsung_tabletsWhile Asus is readying an Eee pad, Microsoft showed us that neat Courier, Crunchpad got turned into JooJoo and Apple’s Tablet is as mysterious as ever, Samsung also joins the gang and is set on building a tablet of its own. Turns out that the first device of this kind will be a JooJoo-like tablet, with multitouch and 3D support.

Samsung promises to launch a couple of mainstream displays for products such as these and they also intend to convert the laptop and desktop screens to LED backlighting starting mid 2010 onwards.

Should be expect anything interesting from this brand during CES 2010, as far as tablets are concerned?

Samsung Showcases a 10.1 inch Color E-paper

As FDP 2009 goes on, Samsung showcases more and more products and among them we’ve spotted a color e-paper with a 10.1 inch diagonal. This component will be incorporated into future e-book readers and it measures 0.7 mm in thickness.

Samsung’s new e-paper was made through a combination between E-ink’s e-paper, a glass TFT substrate and a color filter. Its supported resolution is 450 x 600 pixels, plus it has a contrast ratio of 10:1 and a reflectance of about 12%. Expect mass production to start in a year or two.
