HTC Android Tablet, Close to Debut?

With so many tablet announcements popping up lately, we’re expecting HTC to announce a similar slate any day now. Apple broke the ice with the iPad, generating impressive sales, but we’ve yet to see an Android tablet to perform as well as Android smartphones do. HTC told Pocket-Lint.com recently that it intends to launch a product of this kind, but it doesn’t want to rush it to the market.

It will use a compelling form factor, a compelling feature, and… compelling story, or at least that’s what the Taiwanese company wants. There is no way that they’ll fall in the iPad clone trap, so HTC must find a way to differentiate its product. It could be cheaper, it could be more powerful (CPU wise)… who knows?

What we’re sure of is that HTC can release a great Android tablet, even if it means increasing the screen size of a HTC HD2 or HTC EVO 4G and simply launching that on the market.

HTC CEO Peter Chou Casually Mentions HTC Shift Tablet

HTC CEO Peter Chou recently spoke during the D8 Conference and even casually mentioned a tablet, that might bear the name HTC Shift. Actually, when asked what other devices aside from phones HTC is developing, Chou answered “So in our labs, we’re developing new devices like the HTC Shift”, without providing any extra details.

Since Samsung has just announced Galaxy Tab tablet, a bigger version of the Galaxy S smartphone, we wouldn’t mind seeing a bigger version of HTC EVO 4G turned into a tablet. We wonder what screen diagonal HTC will choose for its product: 7, 10 or 12 inches?

HTC Tablet Rumours Resurface, 1080p HD Recording Also Rumoured to be Supported

HTC tablets are just like the unicorns: they’re superb, but nowhere to be seen. We can even say that they’re more mysterious than the iPad, before it was announced. Apparently, during an official conference in South Africa, one of HTC’s officials confirmed the company’s first tablet, based on Android.

Quinton Leigh is the name of the official, who also mentioned that the device will “not be an actual tablet”, but we don’t have any idea on what that means. HTC could launch a smartbook, another trendy segment of gadgets these days, a combo between a netbook and a smartphone.

Meanwhile, the Taiwanese company announced support for 1080p full HD video recording, but on phones for now. The handsets will also get 5.1 audio surround, courtesy of Yamaha.

HTC Patents Hinged Device, Tablet?

HTC engineers have come up with a new device design, for a hinged gadget, that seems to open up into a flat tablet or some sort. The render of this device doesn’t show any keys, so we might be dealing with a dual screen unit, reminding us of an older patent application. In the official description of this invention, HTC mentions “phones, multimedia players, personal digital assistants, handheld game consoles, handheld satellite navigation systems, and notebook computers”, so the new device could be one of those.

What we’re sure of is that the gadget is a portable electronic device with a sliding mechanism and a moving one, that will increase the “area utilization rate” of the supposed tablet. This invention manages to either allow the user to access a bigger keyboard, or a larger touchscreen, depending on the features of the new gadget.

HTC Android Tablet Gets Canned

HTC has recently announced that, although it was in the process of developing both an Android and Chrome OS tablet, the project was canned. Apparently, they want to focus on Android smartphones, without distractions like a new tablet on their hands. HTC will probably want to evaluate the tablet segment and see how well Apple iPad performs on this young market.

First of all, if the Taiwanese company wants to succeed, it’ll have to compete with the like of the Archos 5 Android tablet or the really cool products made by Lenovo. Dell’s also got a pretty appealing device of its own and we’re not even talking about the NVIDIA Tegra 2-based tablets coming soon.

What could HTC bring new to the table in order to smash the competition?

HTC Magnum, Uber Smartphone or Tablet PC?

These days we’ve heard the name Magnum quite a bit, but not related to HTC, since it was a BlackBerry handset we’ve come across. Back to HTC, we’ve just discovered what they call the HTC Magnum tablet, an impressive device with an 11 inch OLED display, that gets checked out in action in the video below:

This uber-tablet might be a fake, but it sure is big, even for graphical designers looking for a huge resolution. The device uses a Marvell 800 MHz CPU, comes with 80GB storage space, 2GB ROM, 512MB RAM, GPS, WiFi and WiMAX connectivity. Bluetooth 2.0 and HSDPA (7.2 Mbps) are also on board and its battery is able to make the tablet operate for 30 hours (wow!).

The product weighs about 730 grams and we still say this is too good to be true.

HTC to Launch Android Tablets, Other Models that Run Chrome O

HTC is planning to get busy in 2010, not only by launching the huge number of smartphones in its leaked portofolio, but also a bunch of touch tablets. According to the folks of SmartHouse, one of these devices will run Google’s Chrome OS, while another one will be based on Android.

The HTC Android tablet will seemingly debut during a private show taking place at CES 2010 (January 7 – 10) and it’s supposed to feature a new Qualcomm processor and new Adobe software. The launch of such products will make HTC compete with the likes of Apple and their upcoming tablet (iSlate), plus the JooJoo, Asus’ Eee Pad, the Dell Streak, Moto Sholes tablet and God knows how many other gadgets like these.

HTC Evolve Tablet is a Cool Concept, Runs Android, Features OLED Display

Since HTC doesn’t seem to join the gang of tablet-producing companies, we might as well feast on the shots of the HTC Evolve device pictured below. This is a concept tablet created by Timur Pinar, one that runs Android OS, bundles a stylus and incorporates an OLED touchscreen display.

As you can see, there are pre-programmable buttons on the side, for extra features and in case you’re wondering, HTC Evolve’s specs list includes an Intel Atom CPU, 128GB SSD memory, 1.5GB RAM, a customized version of Android and the ability to run Chrome OS.

The HTC tablet also comes with 2 USB 3.0 ports, a HDMI port, a 3.5mm audio jack, a camera, microphone (in the front bezel) and support video conferencing. Better than the Apple Tablet? What do you say?

HTC to Launch a Tablet Before Apple Does?

As HTC HD2 was officially launched in Taiwan, the company’s CEO, Peter Chou mentioned in an interview that the handset maker is still aiming to create a netbook. We take speculations further and start dreaming about a tablet, maybe one to compete with the product that Apple is developing.

sc001

Peter Chou stated that the HTC is “carefully looking into that category and how it can be part of that”. The company has tried its luck with this segment before, with the HTC Shift minilaptop, able to run a full desktop version of Windows Vista. It’s about time that great companies like HTC entered this market, since even Nokia has a Booklet of its own, while Microsoft is readying the Courier portable device.

These may not be the best examples of netbooks or tablets, but the real point is that some companies are trying their luck with segments they’ve never explored before, so why shouldn’t the maker of Hero and HD2 do it, too? It would be a pity, specially since HTC HD2 is only a few inches away from being a genuine tablet…
