Dell Streak Showcased Running Android 2.1, Ready for Froyo? (Video)

Just as we wait for the launch of the Dell Streak tablet/smartphone, we’re being treated to a video of the device running Android 2.1. Said video shows a bit of customization going on, courtesy of Dell’s desire to modify the Android interface. Kevin Andrew, from Dell was keen on reminding everyone that the company will release Froyo for the device, at some point.

The product’s launch date is becoming sort of an unicorn, since we’ve heard it was late July and it’s about to get as “late” as it can be these days. Apparently, Dell wrapped up a 24 hour pre-sale just the other day, but we should expect more this week. It would be a surprise to get Streak with Froyo, but odds are that this won’t happen in July.

Dell Streak Goes for $299.99 on AT&T, $549 Without Commitment

Dell has just announced the launch details of the Dell Streak tablet/smartphone hybrid. Apparently, the device has just reached AT&T’s portofolio, where it’s available for $299.99 with a 2 year contract, but you can also get it for $549.99 without contract.

The folks who pre-registered will get a link to purchase the device through email today. Dell Streak packs a 1GHz CPU, a 5 inch touch display and supports HSPA 3G connectivity via AT&T’s 7.2Mbps network.

Dell Streak Coming to AT&T on Monday July 19th?

The latest rumours coming from BGR point towards an AT&T launch of the Dell Streak tablet on Monday July 19th. This is the US version we’re talking about, of the 5 inch Android tablet, that’s been on sale in the UK since early June. Streak will hit America packing 3G/UMTS connectivity, WiFi b/g, Bluetooth and GPS.

There’s also a 5 megapixel camera on board, with LED flash and a front-facing camera for video calls. Right now, Dell Streak runs Android 1.6 (with Dell customizations), but its maker promised an update to Android 2.x as soon as possible (later in 2010). Dell Streak Gets Reviewed

Now that the whole iPhone 4 craziness has cooled down, it’s time to check out other overhyped gadgets, like the Dell Streak. The tablet got recently reviewed by the folks of Engadget, who published a detailed analysis of the product on their site. The device was launched in the UK last Friday and Engadget’s version comes in a matte carbon finish, instead of the chromed one.

It uses 399MB RAM, instead of 405MB as we previously heard, but this might just be the case of the review unit. Engadget claims that the Streak is very easy to handle, much like a PSP and its case is 10mm thick, which is very OK for a 5 inch MID. The display on board supports a 800 x 480 pixel resolution and it uses capacitive touch overlay, also functioning brilliantly under the sun.

Under the hood, you’ll find a 1530 mAh battery and we learn that Dell Streak comes with a microSD card slot, 3G connectivity, background syncing, a Facebook widget, RSS widget and Twicca. As far as the battery life is concerned, Dell’s toy squeezes ten hours per charge, with pretty solid usage of the device.

As far as flaws go, the device lacks FM radio, but there might be some hack to get this to work, unless it’s a lack in the hardware side. At the back of the tablet there’s a 5 megapixel camera, with autofocus, that handles its tasks pretty well, aside from nightshots. The picture quality of video capture is decent, although over-saturation is something you should worry about, both in filming and picture taking.

We’re curious to see this baby working with Android 2.2, but till then we have an interesting demo of the unit below:

Dell Streak’s Resilient Glass Display Put to the Test (Video)

Dell Streak has been discussed over and over again for the past weeks, as we’ve learned all there is to know about it. However, how many of you know that this tablet is a rugged device? This ability is proved in the video at the end of the article, as the glass display on the device gets tortured and tested for resistance.

There’s even a tough name associated to the display, “Gorilla Glass”, making the 5 inch slate even more appealing. Also dubbed Dell Mini 5, the Streak was put to the test by Engadget, who tortured the prototype they had.

Streak was stabbed with a pen (repeatedly) and it didn’t even show a scratch after the process… Wow!

Dell Streak (Dell Mini 5) Gets Reviewed (Video)

After months of speculations and Dell’s CEO showing up with the device in hand, Dell Streak aka Dell Mini 5 has finally been video reviewed. We have the clip below as proof and we have to remind you that the device is coming to the UK, at O2 stores in June. This touchscreen tablet sports a 5 inch display (WVGA capacitive touchscreen) and it can even be used as a phone.

Dell Streak’s phone features derive from the fact that it supports 3G, WiFi, Bluoetooth, UMTS/GPRS/EDGE class 12 GSM radio with transfer speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps (HSDPA). The reviewer mentions that in no way this is a one-handed operation device and it can’t be considered a smartphone, in spite of it being smaller than the standard tablet.

We also have to mention that although Streak will be released with Android 1.6, it’ll get the 2.2 Froyo upgrade by the end of the current year. Also, the OS will be paired with a custom UI, it’ll support Adobe Flash Player and make good use of the 1GHz Snapdragon CPU. O2 Dell Streak Ready for June Launch; Summer Launch in the States (Video)

Dell’s Streak Android tablet (also known as Dell Mini 5) has been confirmed as ready for launch via O2 UK in early June and coming to the US sometime this summer. The 5 inch MID/ tablet features a WVGA display (capacitive touchscreen with multitouch) and relies on a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU and 2GB of storage.

There’s also a microSD card slot on board, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and a 3.5mm audio jack, plus a 5 megapixel autofocus camera. On board of the Dell Streak you’ll also find a front-facing camera for video calls, Android Market support and a customized UI, that’s very finger-friendly.

This tablet will also get the Android 2.2 Froyo update later during the year, complete with Flash 10.1 support. Initially, the device will run Android 1.6, providing turn by turn support in Google Maps Navigation. Dell Streak Tablet Coming This Summer to AT&T, in June to Telefonica O2

Dell Streak (Mini 5) is constantly being carried around and shown off by the PC maker’s CEO, Michael Dell. Now, as he was wielding the 5 inch tablet during a Citrix Synergy conference, he also mentioned that the device will be available on O2 Telefonica in June and later this summer in the US, via AT&T.

One mustn’t really consider the Streak an iPad rival, since it’s about the size and form factor of an average MID or a larger iPod Touch. Beneath the hood of this device you’ll find a Qualcomm Snapdragon 1GHz processor and its specs list includes a capacitive touchscreen as well as a 5 megapixel back-facing camera, a front-facing camera, WiFi and 3G.

Dell Looking Glass Tablet Features Nvidia Tegra 2 Chipset, Coming in November

After leaking a bunch of very cool smartphones on the web, Dell decided to also let loose a table based on Nvidia Tegra 2. We’re talking about the Dell Looking Glass slate, pictured below and detailed after the break. This is a 7 inch bigger brother to the Streak 5, in case you were wondering.

The device should be available starting November, running Android 2.1 on the Tegra 2 processor. There’s also an optional TV tuner module on board, with support for ATSC or DVB-T TV services, while the display on the tablet supports a 800 x 480 pixel resolution. Dell Looking Glass relies on AT&T’s U-verse browser and also packs 4GB RAM and 4GB flash storage.

An SDHC slot completes the feature list, together with a 1.3 megapixel camera. Basically, this a bigger Dell Streak, with better specs…

Dell Streak Tablets Leak; AT&T Aero Available From June

Dell has been a master of leaks recently, having confirmed the Dell Mini 5 (Streak) tablet, thanks to one of its officials and now we’ve managed to get some info on the new Dell Streak models. One sports a 7 inch touchscreen display, while the other is a 10 inch unit. They’ve both landed on Engadget’s desk and we have to mention that the smaller device will be available in late 2010, while the larger one will debut in early 2011.

The maker of these devices also leaked info about Dell Aero on AT&T and the Dell Mini 5, with the AT&T smartphone ready for its debut in June 2010. Dell Mini 5/ Streak 5 will hit the market this summer. The tablets shown in the image above are still mysterious, as far as specs are concerned, but we can suppose that they run Android, with a custom Dell UI on top.
