Apple iPad Having Tough Time With Content Provides
Mar 20, 2010 Apple Tablet
A little more than a week from the product’s official launch, the Apple iPad is having issues with the content providers that will work with its maker. Pre-orders have been pouring for the new device over the past week, so it would be a pity to launch the product void of content, right? Apple wanted to provide TV subscriptions with the tablet, but we wonder if they’ll manage to provide the TV shows everyone wants these days.
The fact is that the partners working with Apple are scared, mostly because their relationships with TV outlets and cable companies will be jeopardized by this cooperation. For now, Apple chooses to lower prices for TV shows and it’s funny to notice that the Cupertino giant had no issues with book publishers, but they were stuck when it came to TV content.
After all, people watch more episodes of The Office and American Idol, compared to the time they spend reading books.

Apple iPad Dead Battery Replacement = Another iPad for $99
Mar 16, 2010 Apple Tablet
Apple has just announced the conditions for replacing the iPad battery, which is basically giving the user a brand new tablet instead of the old one. This comes with a price, $99 to be more precise and it’s pretty weird that Apple chooses to send a new unit instead of the old one. This is very much unlike the iPhone battery servicing, that will have the device torn apart, battery replaced and the handset shipped back to you.
With the shipping included, you’ll pay up to $105.95 for your “fixed” iPad, or better said, the new one. The product comes in about one week, with the main disadvantage of you losing all personal data, unless you backup often. We wonder if the replacement iPad will be a refurbished one or a totally new unit, since none of the versions would surprise us.
Apple sure has a strange way of doing business…

Apple iPad Goes on Sale, 120,000 Units Gone on Friday
Mar 14, 2010 Apple Tablet
As you might already be aware, the Apple iPad reached pre-order status on Friday and it even managed to score a record, selling 120,000 units in a single day. These are early estimates, so the numbers may grow, but they still show quite a success. The 120,000 were only sold on Friday, so this is a very impressive feat, even for Apple.
The largest numbers were associated with the WiFi-only iPad, that’s due out on April 3rd. Strangely enough, the 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models were equally split in sales, so people don’t care that much about price, when it comes to more storage. What does this amount of units mean to the Cupertino giant? Well, about $75 million made in the first day of pre-order.
A simple calculus shows that Apple was selling about 25,000 units every hour and if they go on like this, they’ll pull an iPhone once again. April 3rd should tell us more about the fanboys and their will to line up in front of stores once again… We have to mention that the Apple Stores worldwide went down at some point, with the many people clogging the pipe to get a tablet.
If you’re wondering about the 3G iPad, it’ll be shipped in late April 2010, priced at $629, $729 and $829 and up for pre-order now.

Apple iPad Debut to Trigger the Launch of 50 More Tablets
Mar 12, 2010 Apple Tablet
An ARM official recently predicted a pretty scary situation for folks looking to buy a tablet: the iPad release will trigger an avalanche of no less than 50 new tablets unveiled in 2010. With so many to choose from, which one will rule the market, that’ll tend to get divided into sub-segments? The first tablets are supposed to be launched in Q2, via mobile carriers, according to Roy Chen, ARM’s worldwide mobile computing ODM manager.
The Q2 models will be followed by many more in Q3 and they’ll quickly expand all across the globe, with a rapid growth in China. Credit goes to the Apple iPad, for stimulating competition and defining a new range of products, claims ABI Research analyst Jeff Orr. Media tablets are mostly focused on entertainment, since such a device can’t replace a laptop or smartphone, so it’s a luxury product for wealthy markets, according to the same analyst.
Orr also mentioned that players from the tablet segment can be divided into two categories: traditional computer vendors (Lenovo, Asus, HP) and new vendors, like ICD and Notion Ink. Apple is somewhere between the two, but closer to the large players.
We guess that prices, launch dates and unique form factors will spell success for some brands.

iPad Tethering to the iPhone Dismissed by Steve Jobs
Mar 12, 2010 Apple Tablet
Steve Jobs was recently questioned regarding the support for tethering between the iPad and iPhone. The person who asked the question was Jezper Söderlund, a “long time Apple fan”, as he claims. Jezper said that he wants to replace the last computer in the house with an iMac i7 and he also plans on purchasing an iPad. As far as tethering is concerned, he referred to the WiFi only version of the Apple tablet.
Apparently, Jezper is quite famous in Sweden, since he’s a local DJ, but that didn’t stop Steve Jobs from answering his question with a simple “no”. It’s strange to notice that the iPhone officially supports tethering, but not in the US, so nothing should stop it from tethering with the iPad on international carriers.
Did Jobs get his own products wrong?

Apple iPad to Generate More Demand Than the iPhone
Mar 11, 2010 Apple Tablet
A recent survey done by RBC/ChangeWave claims that the initial iPad demand is greater than the demand that accompanied the launch of the very first iPhone. After all, we’re dealing with a product that was long time speculated upon and hyped. RBC/Changewave found that 13% of its 3,200 respondents are likely to purchase the device, compared to the 9% who were ready to go get the iPhone when it first went live.
A reason for this demand could be the iPad’s relatively low price point, specially in its cheapest version. While many were expecting the Apple tablet to cost around $999, it’ll go for $499 and back to the study, we learn that a mere 8% of questioned people aren’t willing to pay the prices for the iPad.
28% of folks weren’t ready to spend cash on the iPhone, with its initial price, so things are looking better in the case of the tablet. Among the people interested in the iPad, 19% want the $499 16GB WiFi-only version, while other 19% plan on getting the $829 64GB 3G iPad. What do people plan on doing with this device? 68% claim that they want to surf the web, 44% want to check their email on the go and 37% want to read e-books.
Analysts estimated that Apple will sell around 5 million iPad units this year, but let’s wait and see if they’ll work miracles again, with all that competition.

Cut Down Your Normal SIM, Make it an iPad Micro SIM… for Real?
Mar 9, 2010 Apple Tablet
Brandon Shigeta posted a very interesting idea on his blog: a sort of guide showing you how to turn a normal chip into a micro SIM, needed to use the iPad. As we’ve mentioned before, the Apple Tablet uses a micro SIM card, that’s only 12 x 15mm, 52% smaller than the normal 15 x 25mm plastic card. Of course, the new type of SIM isn’t compatible with your phone…
We can’t help but wonder if Brandon’s idea will work or not, but we’d need a 3G iPad to test that and these are… let’s say very scarce these days, at least till summer. The micro SIM was developed by the ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute) and it provides more storage space on chip for provider apps, better control and security.

Steve Jobs Spotted at the Oscars, Promoting the iPad and iPhone 4G, Are We?
Mar 9, 2010 Apple Tablet
After showing you the very first iPad commercial aired during the Academy Awards 2010 on Sunday, we’ve also come across an image showing Steve Jobs on the red carpet, while attending the event. He might be there to promote the new Apple products, or simply to have some high class fun and hang out with major actors.
If you were really not into the first Apple iPad ad, with The Blue Van’s “There Goes My Love” song in the background, you can have a look at a funny alternative for the commercial, created by the folks of neo-fight.tv. It’s an Apple iPad ad that’s seen through the eyes of the folks behind the Old Spice brand.

Apple iPad TV Commercial Shown During the Academy Awards (Video)
Mar 8, 2010 Apple Tablet
It’s very unlikely you missed the Academy Awards that happened just hours ago, but in case you did, there was some other interesting thing to see on TV during the ceremony, or rather in its commercial break. We’re talking about the Apple iPad TV ad, that took off during the Awards. Here it is:
As you can see, the ad mentions the April 3rd date, as we’ve previously confirmed and you should also know that Apple is taking pre-orders for the device starting March 12th. Does this commercial make you want to buy an iPad? Of course, the classic Apple PR wheels were set in motion and we have to admit that this is a pretty cool ad, while the product is… well, not so appealing.

Apple iPad Official Availability Date is April 3
Mar 6, 2010 Apple Tablet
Apple announced yesterday that it’ll sell the first WiFi iPad models on April 3, thus ending many weeks of speculations regarding the launch date. The 3G versions will be released later in the same month, according to CNN, quoting the Cupertino giant. Customers will have the chance of pre-ordering the tablet via Apple’s online store on March 12.
We remind you that the iPad was unveiled on January 27, during a special Apple event in San Francisco and some consider it the “missing link” between smartphones and laptops. However, some were disappointed by the 10 inch gadget, saying it’s an oversized iPod touch with better connectivity and a newer OS.
Prices for the device start at $499, for the 16GB version with WiFi only, while the 32GB one will retail for $599 and the 64GB one for $699. The iPad will also reach the following countries in late April: Spain, UK, Canada, France, Australia, Germany, Italy and Switzerland.
