Acer Developing Touchscreen Keyboard Laptop?

Engadget informs us that Acer might be working on a frameless laptop with a touchscreen keyboard, something like the device pictured below. A rumour first made popular by DigiTimes, this piece of news also claims that the Acer device will give up the display frame and simply print colors directly on the back side of the screen’s reinforced glass substrate.

There’s also a touchscreen keyboard to be used on the device, that’s supposed to be incredibly thin for a traditional laptop. In case you’re wondering, the device above is the Frame Zero concept, created by Fujitsu and even ASUS is working on something similar, a dual display laptop prototype, while the OLPC has a new version planned with a similar approach.

LG GW990 MeeGo OS MID Hands On Revealed (Video)

We’re unsure if we should call the LG GW990 device a smartphone or a MID, since it’s a pretty big piece of gadgetry, with an impressive 4.8 inch touchscreen with a 1024 x 480 pixel resolution. As mentioned here, the device supports the new Intel-Nokia MeeGo OS, the hybrid between Nokia’s Maemo and Intel’s Moblin.

This device is based on the Intel Moorestown platform and you can see it in action in the video after the break, captured at MWC 2010, last week in Barcelona. The interface is the famous LG S-Class 3D used on so many LG phones till now. Some call this the “missing link” between smartphone and netbook, but we’re only dealing with a handset with a huge diagonal and a cool new platform on board.

What’s certain is that this MID would make an ultra portable laptop jealous, specially thanks to its many features.

Unboxing of the Original Apple Tablet Caught on Camera; Newtown 2100 is NOT the iSlate (Video)

While some people think that Apple is new to the tablet game, we go back 13 years or so, to the time of the Newton 2100 MessagePad, the first “tablet” of the Cupertino company. Some guys went even further and did an unboxing of the old device, ironically placed near a modern iPhone. Here’s the result of the unboxing experience:

In case you’re wondering, here’s a list of of this almost ancient device: a 162 MHz StrongARM 110 processor, 8 MB of Mask ROM, 8 MB of RAM, dual PCMCIA slots, IrDA beaming support and a Newton InterConnect port. The display is a backlit LCD screen with a 480 x 320 pixel resolution @ 100 dpi, complete with a stylus that’s bundled with the product.

We know that this is more of a PDA than a tablet, but it’s as close to the device that’s coming as it gets. Newton 2100 runs the NewtonOS, which is not the MacOS, but it’s still developed by Apple.
