  • Microsoft has big plans for next year, as it’s preparing two big updates for Windows 10, basically follow ups to the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, that came this week. MS is returning to the “twice a year update” pattern.

This is similar to the Threshold approach from 2015, if you remember. The info was confirmed by a blog post on the Microsoft TechNet website. Windows 10, version 1607 is the third release of the Windows 10 feature update, based on feedback from organizations that moved to Win 10 recently and it comes this year. It’s followed by two more updates next year.

The first big update from 2017 is codenamed Redstone 2 and it will come in the early part of 2017. The second update is codenamed Redstone 3 and it’s meant for a Summer 2017 launch. This means there will be a period of 4 to 6 months between Redstone 2 and Redstone 3, similar to the Threshold update wave. Redstone 3 will not be a very major update it seems.

Insiders should gain access to Redstone 2 sections soon enough. Will Windows 10 Mobile live enough to see the updates?
