  • It’s August 2nd and today isn’t all about Samsung’s new toy, but rather Microsoft’s big software release. Windows 10 Anniversary Update is now available and I mean available in an official and finalized manner, not only for insiders.

Tests started back in December last year for this version and the new software has materialized today. New features and improvements come free of charge and the most interesting of them has to be Windows Ink. It’s sort of like a dedicated section for devices like the Surface Pro 4 for example and other models that support styli. It works with fingers too, letting you doodle and “ink” on screenshots as well.

Enhancements and improvements of the UI are included, in the Start menu, notification center, taskbar and the overall dark theme. Cortana now works on the lockscreen and answers more queries and the Edge browser finally got extension support, including ad blockers, EverNote and more coming in the Windows Store soon. Windows 10 Anniversary Update is available from Windows Update right now, in the Settings > Updates&security > Windows Update section.

You should also know that now you can use Windows Hello with some apps and sites, like Dropbox for example. Cortana gets tighter integration in Windows 10 Anniversary update, no longer being a separate desktop search tool. Smartphone notifications from your own handset will now also be shown on PC and not only from Windows 10 mobile devices.

So, did you get the update? Are you happy with it?
