  • There haven’t been any leaks or traces of the existence of the Xiaomi Mi Pad 3, but today we get a hint concerning one of its potential CPU choices. The device is said to opt for an Intel CPU once again, this time a newcomer dubbed Intel Apollo Lake.

Apparently, the chip was detailed at Computex over the past week and it’s based on a 14 nm process and Goldmont architecture. It’s supposed to be the follow-up to the Cherry Trail and it keeps going on, even though the Intel Atom series got canned. This chip brings a 30% performance increase from the previous CPUs from last year and also a 15% decrease in power usage.

The GPU reaches 9th generation architecture and Apollo Lake comes with dual band WiFi support, eMMC flash storage also supported and it can work fine with DDR3L/LPDDR3 and LPDDR4 memory. It also gets USB Type C 3.0 support. Since the Mi Pad 2 had an Intel Atom x5, it’s expected that the Mi Pad 3 will have a new generation of Intel chip, more RAM, perhaps even 6 GB and a high res screen.

Still, the new processor detailed above is expected in the second half of the year, which has just started, so we may have to wait a bit more.
