  • Acer’s big event today, the one we prefaced here finally came and it was all about a liquid cooled hybrid laptop in the end. This is the first hybrid laptop that runs on Intel’s sixth gen Core i processor without a fan. This model is positioned as a bit of a Surface Pro 4 rival and some people may even call it a clone.

That’s a big achievement, since it gets rid of fan noise, which is still a problem with today’s skinny laptops. Acer Switch Alpha 12 comes with a kickstand and a detachable keyboard, plus a 12 inch screen with a 2160 x 1440 pixel resolution. Acer’s gizmo weighs 2.76 pounds with the keyboard and 1.98 pounds as a standalone tablet.

It ships from June priced from $599 and up, plus you should know that the backlit keyboard is available for free. The configuration options include sixth gen Core i series of CPUs, 4 GB of RAM and up to 128 GB of storage. There’s also a full size USB 3.0 port in the mix, plus an USB type C port. Buyers can opt for an Intel RealSense 3D camera as well, letting you login on the device using Windows Hello.

Acer also announced new notebooks like the Predator 17x gaming model with a triple fan cooling system, or the R 15 convertible notebook with a glass fiber body and metal lid. Then there’s the S 13 notebook, one of the thinnest in its class.
