Samsung 32nm Exynos Chipsets Power WQXGA Mobile Displays Easily; Exynos 5250 Shows Its Power!
The folks of Phone Arena had the opportunity to witness a demo of the Exynos 5250 processor from Samsung, a multicore Cortex A15 CPU that managed to power a 2560 x 1600 display on show at the event. This means that sometime in the future we’ll have Samsung tablets with such a resolution. Samsung’s innovation here is the SoC tech on the 32nm technology and great battery life that comes with it.
This new chipset supports wireless video streaming over UWB. The current Cortex A9 dual and quad core processors, with the most popular now being the Nvidia Tegra 3 are built using 45 nm processes, while 32 nm is a huge progress for Samsung and the entire industry. The upcoming Exynos 4212 also uses the new technology, compared to the 45 nm Exynos 4210 that powered the Galaxy S II, so imagine the shift. If you want clear figures, know that the 32 nm Exynos 4212 CPU uses 36% less energy than the 4210, although it’s clocker higher. How cool is that?
Finally, battery lives can improve dramatically, as performance also increase and Nvidia really has a big problem is Samsung finally decides to let other companies use the Exynos solution, although I highly doubt that. Seeing the performance of Exynos 5250, it’s clear that this is the processor that will power the next flagship Galaxy Tab tablet, but which one will Samsung use on the Galaxy S III, that’s the question. There’s the dual core 1.5 GHz Exynos 4212 as option and the 2GHz 5250, but there’s also the quad core 1.8GHz 4412 model. Then there’s the quad core beast 2GHz Exynos 5450 with Cortex A15 cores and a great Mali 658 GPU, that might make it to Samsung Windows 8 slates.
