iPad Clone Runs Android, Uses Apple UI
Mar 31, 2010 Apple Tablet
iPad tablet clones aren’t new by any means, specially this time of the year, when the real product is finally getting shipped to its owners. What’s really interesting is that the device pictured below is an Android iPad clone, using an Apple-style UI. We don’t know the manufacturer of this product, but what we do know is that it incorporates a 600 MHz ARM SoC chipset and a 10 inch touchscreen.
The casing is similar to the one on the iPad, but the display ratio is different from the one of the Apple slate (4:3), although the longer display has the advantage of better widescreen video viewing. This fake iPad will be available for around $150, very low compared to any tablet out there, so we’re guessing the rest of the specs are pretty rubbish.

First iPad Shipments Hit Louisville, KY
Mar 30, 2010 Apple Tablet
Word has it that the first Apple iPad shipments have arrived at the huge UPS facility in Louisville, KY. Soon, they’ll be arriving at their rightful owners’ homes, so if you live in Louisville or nearby, you’re a lucky fellow. For now, the iPad units are undergoing “UPS internal activity” and we have to mention that the huge facility pictured at the end of the article is the core of UPS’s international activity.
If you’re into such details, the device was most likely assembled in Shenzhen China, than boarded on a plane and airfreighted to the States. Next, it entered the UPS system and now it’ll be directed to your home, in time for the April 3rd store launch. Will the first Apple tablet units arrive earlier than estimated?
If they do, let us know…

Apple iPad Preorders Reach 500,000, Tablet Apps Surface
Mar 30, 2010 Apple Tablet
Yesterday people on Twitter let everyone know that they were getting the shipping notice for the Apple iPad units they ordered, so the device is coming, as promised, on April 3rd. That’s the date when it’ll hit the stores, but aren’t you curious to know how many units have been pre-ordered already? The answer is: around 500,000…
Fortune’s report states that the iPad’s online orders are reaching a quarter of a million units, with 120,000 purchased in the first day. The rest to 500,000 were pre-orders placed in physical stores and we have to mention that this doesn’t even include batch orders, from educational outlets and other such distribution channels.
Meanwhile, we learn that the iPad apps have started surfacing in the iTunes Store Search results, mainly games and a couple of other software, marked with the “HD” tag. Now let’s see them in action, once the devices hit the stores and get unboxed by their lucky owners.

Beijing Gorld 600 TW E-Reader is Also a Cellphone, Made in China
Mar 30, 2010 E-Book Readers
One of the very unlikely combos out there is that of a cellphone with an e-reader. This is the case of the Beijing Gorld 600 TW e-reader, pictured below and also packing the features of a mobile phone. This is an E-Ink device, with a 6 inch display and a battery life of around 6,000 page turns.
As far as connectivity is concerned, you get GSM/GPRS/EDGE, plus WiFi and Bluetooth and the e-book reader is even capable of sending SMS messages. The device is available in China for about $420 and we guess that the next step in hybrids and combos like these would be a picture frame that’s also a printer or scanner.

E-book readers launched in Asia have the habit of coming out with weird names and this is also the case of the Biscuit, an e-reader made by Interpark. The latter is an important Korean shopping company and we learn that the 3G device is similar to the Amazon Kindle, but it sports a different keyboard layout, with the core navigation buttons below the display.
Biscuit supports downloads for ebooks and newspapers, it packs a 6 inch E-ink 600 x 800 pixel display, showing 8 levels of grayscale and its specs list also includes 4GB of internal memory. There’s also a battery on board, that’ll last for up to 9,000 page turns, maybe with the wireless turned off.
Among the supported formats on this e-book reader we spotted: Adobe PDF, MS Office (doc, ppt, xls etc), TXT, BMP, JPG, MP3 and many more. Interpark Biscuit is on sale in Korea right now, for $350 and about 25,000 titles are available on it.

Apple iPad Preorders Shipping NOW; Earlier Than Expected
Mar 29, 2010 Apple Tablet
Monday is everyone’s least favourite day of the week, but it seems that this Monday is something special. We’re talking about the fact that the iPad units that were preordered have started being shipped to their owners. Twitter reports have shown that many folks have already received shipping notices for their tablets, ahead of the device’s April 3rd debut.
Easter bunny or April’s Fools, we’re certainly glad to hear this… Also, you should know that there’s a rumour going around saying that the Apple had no less than half a mil iPad units pre-ordered so far, most of them WiFi versions of the device. This huge success made the Cupertino giant push the expected shipping date for new online orders to April 12th, in case you want to jump on the iPad train just now.
iPad magazines screenshots have started to leak, some apps with the “HD” mark next to them as well and we’re betting that we’ll see an unboxing of the device by the end of the week.

As we expected, the first batch of iPads was sold out, with the second wave of pre-orders starting shipment on April 12th. We remind you that April 3rd is the date when the tablet hits the stores and the initial pre-orders will be shipped. Rumour has it that the Cupertino giant already sold 500,000 iPads, but time and official statistics will have the last say.

Samsung Supplies Apple With iPad Displays; Maybe iPhone 4G Screens, Too?
Mar 28, 2010 Apple Tablet
A couple of days ago Samsung managed to score an important deal with Apple, getting an order of 3 million iPad displays from the Cupertino giant. An unnamed industry source spoke with The Korea Times, claiming that Samsung is Apple’s second supplier for 9.7 inch LCD panels, following LG Display Co. The new agreement is worth $240 million.
Another unnamed source, this time from Samsung also mentioned that the Asian company will supply the iPhone maker with displays for the fourth-gen iPhone. Apparently, Samsung is already receiving orders for these products, so we can start to speculate that Apple will move to AMOLED screens for the iPhone 4G.
Back to the iPad deal, we learn that Samsung will use the IPS display technology, with improved viewing angles, but also lack of sharpness. Right now, with all the supply deals, Apple have components ready for about 13 million iPads. Let’s see how well the device sells, in the end…
