Modded Sony Vaio UX490, the Most Impressive UMPC in the World
Nov 23, 2009 Almost a tablet, Sony
When was the last time you saw a device able to quad boot? The device below might just be the most impressive UMPC we’ve ever seen, a modded Sony Vaio UX. The mod was done by the folks of MicroPCTalk and the result is a customization masterpiece and a real piece of work.
The UMPC has had its original 48GB SSD replaced with a 128GB RunCore Pro IV SSD and you should also know that its Core 2 Solo U2200 1.2 GHz CPU was swapped with an Intel Core 2 Duo U7700 @ 1.33 GHz (overclocked to 1.438 GHz), a more powerful solution.
Sony Vaio UX supports HSDPA/UMTS (900/2100 MHz) 3G connectivity with speeds of up to 7.2Mbps, plus GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850/900/1800/1900 MHz), voice calling and texting. Now to the interesting part, you’ll notice that the device quad boots Mac OSX Leopard 10.5.7, Windows Vista Business, Windows 7 Ultimate and Windows XP Professional.
If you’re wondering about benchmarks, know that UX490 is able to reach a 57k rating in Crystal Mark, making it the best UMPC ever and the fastest, to be honest.
