Archos 5 Internet Tablet Gets the Full Google Suite

The Archos 5 Internet Tablet was deprived of the full Android love so far, but here it is now, getting the complete Google suite. The device will be getting support for Android Market, Gmail, Maps and tons of other goodies suited for such a hot Internet tablet.

Remember that these pieces of software can be used on the device, but stability is not an asset over at Archos, so feel free to ruin your daily MO with some extra apps. Can we dare to dream about Chrome OS on a future Archos product or maybe a port on an existing unit such as this?

QiGi Smartbook is More of a MID With WM 6.5

QiGi have a new interesting product out and while they consider it a smartbook, the device has all the ingredients to be a real MID. Running Windows Mobile 6.5 and sporting a 5 inch 800 x 480 pixel display, the multimedia Internet device can be seen below.

qigi-smartbook-mid

It’s got a bunch of face buttons for easier navigation and use and 1 GB of memory, that certainly don’t make it a smartbook. Chinese writings on the screen say it all: not coming to Europe or the States too soon, plus we don’t quite dig the huge bezel and glossy screen, so sorry QiGi.

Chrome OS Gets Demoed on Asus T91 MT (Video)

If you’re one of the impatient folks waiting for Google Chrome OS, know that it recently got demoed on an Asus T91 MT with touchscreen on board. A good calibration is what the device needs, but the experience is pretty good overall and the system runs smoothly. Shipping in 2010, destined to gain a huge market share… will you spend bucks on a Chrome OS PC?

Also, will you consider keeping all your data on a cloud-based solution instead of your own hard drive? A statistic would be interesting to see, concerning the safety of data stored on a HDD versus data stored on clouds.

Remember what happened to T-Mobile and Sidekicks? Want to risk?

Dell Tablet, Ready for AT&T Launch?

Taiwanese publication Commercial Times informs us that the Dell Streak tablet will hit the US with a 3G carrier plan, with the favorite operator being AT&T. Dell and AT&T will cooperate on this launch, that’ll take place next year. It’s very likely that this won’t the only model, because local manufacturer Qisda will make more than one device.

Dell Streak will run Android 2.0 and pack a 5 inch touchscreen display with a pretty high resolution. The same device will be used as a smartphone and it’ll support calling on AT&T’s network.

NVIDIA Tegra Tablet is Real, Prototype Hands on Revealed

Remember the recently published interview with NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang and the tablet he was messing with at that time? Turns out that the device was in fact an NVIDIA Tegra tablet prototype, that’s just been analyzed via hands on experience by the folks of Engadget.

Nvidia_tegra_tablet_1

This is a Windows CE-powered piece of gear, with a resistive touchscreen display (15/16 inches diagonal), Tegra internals that resemble the ones on Zune HD and much more. The maker of this tablet is ICD and a partner for the sales of the device might be T-Mobile.

NVIDIA’s device is far from being finished, but it’s a prototype after all and it’s pretty good for what it’s supposed to be. The tablet is under an inch in thickness, supports 720p video playback and even comes with a wireless recharge station, a sort of base accessory that allows the gadget to recharge in upright position.

Who cares about the Apple Tablet when you see a great idea like this?

ViewSonic MID Runs Windows XP, Specs Confirmed

ViewSonic is a name you’ve probably heard linked mostly to monitors, but the company seems to want a piece of the portable PC segment, as well. We’ve just found out that the monitor maker also created a Windows XP phone, the VCP08 plus a tablet MID with the same OS on board and a 6-7 inch display (maybe a touchscreen).

Official specs for the device aren’t available yet, but those confirmed include a 1.1 GHz Intel Atom Z510 processor, 1GB of RAM, 10GB of internal memory and 3G support. A close look at this MID reveals two mystery cameras (front facing and webcam), plus an optical finger mouse and a rocker switch, used as mouse buttons.

There’s also an aerial on board for TV reception and we sure wish we had some prices to select from, as far as this MID is concerned.

Apple Tablet Confirmed by Kids Magazine?!

Of all the places to get the confirmation of the long awaited Apple Tablet, a German kids magazine is the last place we would have counted on. Said teenie mag includes the photo below, most likely a Photoshop work messing with some iPhones and claims that this is in fact the new tablet from Cupertino.

ipad1

Apparently, it sports a 10.2 inch display and it should be called the iPad. Also, the magazine mentions a launch date scheduled for January, but it’s all irrelevant, considering the poor quality of this photo edit. If we start following kids magazines, next thing you know, we’ll be switching on the Disney channel for gadget reviews.

Clearly a fake!

Windows Mobile 6.5 MID C-Motech Mangrove Gets Demoed (Video)

We’ve talked about C-Motech’s Mangrove MID a bunch of times before, specially because we were impressed by its specs and design. Now, the device gets checked out in a video demo below and we learn that it comes with 1GB of RAM and a 7 inch WVGA touchscreen display.

There’s also a Snapdragon CPU underneath the case and the OS of choice is, in this case Windows Mobile 6.5. You can use a stylus to control the device and you have to notice the very annoying tendency of the screen to rotate the image with every movement of the user, just like the iPhone.

EKing i1, a Promising 4.8 inch UMPC

EKing i1 is the perfect alternative for your netbook, a device that’s become too big for modern requirements, just like laptops did a couple of years ago. This UMPC comes with a 4.8 inch LCD display with a 1024 x 600 pixel resolution, a QWERTY keyboard placed on the sides of the screen, just like in the case of Samsung Q1U.

EKing_i1_UMPC_1

The device’s processor is an Intel Atom Z520 CPU, clocked at 1.3 GHz and the specs list of this UMPC also includes 1GB of onboard memory, an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 500 graphics solution, a 1.3 megapixel webcam and a 60GB hard drive. Wireless connectivity is also supported, but Bluetooth is not and the battery beneath the case is a 3900 mAh Li-ion unit.

Let’s just hope that this product makes it out of Asia and reaches Europe or Northern America with a reasonable price.
